Good evening class. The Experiment is beginning with a bang. Many good writers have already signed on as I am sure many more will, so we will wait a few days before we begin, to allow other people to join.

I have created another blog site where we can post our stuff. It's here The Experiment.

Have a nice evening class

The Experiment (posted June 4th, 2007)

Good morning class. I’m Mr. MikeM and I will be your instructor today. It seems Mr. I-am-a-better-writer-than-you-will-ever-be was in a flaming car accident. Something about breaks cut…..gasoline in the back seat and drugs found in his trunk.

Mr. What’s His Name believed that you are only a good writer with training and development, but as I’ve seen from the many blogs I have visited, there are great writers all over. They just need to be given a chance to express an idea in the right way.

So class, today we are going to throw your old teachers’ lesson plans and do something that we all can be a part of. We are going to actually write something together.

The technique is called “collaborative brain storming” but we are going to take it to the next level.

Here is how it works. I will write an opening paragraph or two to a story and then pass it to the next person. The next person writes the next two or three paragraphs and passes it to the next person. They write the next paragraph or two or three and pass it on to the next person.

And so on until we have a story.

The only writing rule is that you write what you want too. Be creative (as I know all of you are). If you want to kill off the main character in the third paragraph, do so. That is what makes this an interesting project. The next writer will have to be creative and make the story flow.

So what do you say class? What to do this?

Just leave a comment below if you want to participate. After we get enough people I will update this post with the first couple of paragraphs of the story and tag the first person. Then they will write the next part, post it on their blog and tag the next person.

In the end we should have a very interesting and colorful story written by interesting and colorful people. The end result I will get published somewhere. Every one who contributes will get credit.

Are you in?

I am not much into fiction writing, so I am afraid to touch this one. But i am dying to see how this comes out. Have fun!

Rach said...

THanks for stopping by my blog earlier today. This sounds interesting, tho something I've never done before but I'm game.

Annelisa said...

Oh, I love this sort of creativity... and seeing as I have writer's block (ha ha! I mean Blogger's block) back at my own blog, I'd enjoy a little participation in the adventure!!

Thanks for calling in at Words That Flow... I'm afraid, if you come back, you will just be playing 'catch-up' for a while (I hope only a while!!) until Blogger unblocks my posts... but, eventually I'll be back again! Until then, there's no stopping me blogging... any which way I can :-D

If you didn't get the answer, in all that blether, count me in!

Count me in too mike ... I've done this serveral times and it is unbelievable how wacky these things turn out.

I'm_Inspired said...

Gosh, I wish I could say "I'm in!!" But, I am way out of my writing league with you guys...that's why I post so many pictures on my blog...to compensate for my lack of creativity and writing skills.

I do admire all of you who have so readily jumped into this project! I'm anxious to see how it all comes together!

What a unique idea!!

Mike - thanks for stopping by my blog - I've got to get out more, this whole work thing is getting the way of the leisure thing ;-)

Hi Mike!

I've played games like this before, hopefully it will be just as fun in this format as it is face to face.

While I'm interested in reading it, I don't have the time to be a participant.

Good luck!

Yikes! I am 'gettin a little scared.' I hope I can add to verses distract from the Experiment! Thank you for the wonderful idea and for organizing it all. I can't wait! (chewing what little finger nails I have left)

Mike M said...

Mebsmommy,

No need to be scared. This is all in fun. You don't have to be a professional writer to write a good story.

Just have fun with it. There are no wrong answers!

I so, so want to, but I don't want to get stuck not being able to write and hold anyone up. You know I'm going to read it regardless--some of my favorite writers are there. :D

Such an awesome idea, Mike!
And I LOVE the commercial! It rocks!

Dang it! I just left a very long comment and it was eaten up by cyberspace!!

Anyway, I giggled at the drama, but it is a really cool "commericial"! You and daddy are so alike! Don't you think he would have LOVED doing this with you? =)

This sounds like fun! However, we are leaving for a two week vacation at the same time you are beginning this and, as I said before, I have several projects on my plate right now. I will, however, read with interest and can't wait to see how it all turns out!

Have fun everyone!
